The State of Rio de Janeiro offers excellent conditions for the installation of new companies and new investments. With a population greater than 15 million habitants, the state is located strategically on the coast, Southeastern Brazil which is responsible for producing nearly two thirds of the country’s GDP.
The economically active population includes 7.6 million people and the State’s GDP is made up of the following segments: 47.5% - services; 52.0% - industry and 0.5% - agriculture. The Rio de Janeiro GDP has been growing at a rate greater than the nation’s index and was responsible for 11.5% of the National GDP in 2006. The level of workforce professional qualification is the highest in Brazil: 8.7% of the Economically Active Population has 15 years or more of academic studies.
Rio de Janeiro is home to some 23,664 industrial establishments providing jobs for more than 594,000 people (2006). The state also has a well-bodied production transportation infrastructure including ports and railroads that process nearly 70% of Brazil’s production handling and shipping segment.
According to a study published in the Decision Rio Report, elaborated by the FIRJAN System, Rio is earmarked to receive investments superior to US$ 60 billion between 2010 and 2012, channeled mainly to the transformation industry (16%), infrastructure (22,6%) Oil and Gas (61,1%) and others (0,3%).
